As a break from the drama...

First off, let me just say, I hate working with Windows. My laptop still has Vista on it, which is frustrating in and of itself, but I have forgotten how to edit, crop, etc, in Windows. It sucks!!!

However, that being said, I have to show you the latest thing the Impertinent Daughter has done. As I've said before, her artwork has improved by leaps and bounds, just over the last month, and she continually astounds me. She caught a virus yesterday, and has spent most of the day either curled up on the couch, or in bed, drawing, and she brought me this today...

New Art

That's just with ink pen and marker, folks.

So, that's one thing to be cheerful about...

I am just one big ache

I just took on Winsor Pilates for the first time, and I lost. I had no idea I was this out of shape!

Time to flop on the couch and watch the season finale of Beautiful People... yes, again. And you can't tell me they haven't watched AWZ. I swear I heard strains of "Unzertrennlich" playing during the tabletennis rooftop confessional! (Is anybody else watching this show besides [personal profile] omarandjohnny? And if not, then why not?!!! Take Glee, make the musical numbers glitter even more, swap out the moralistic lesson-per-episode with naughty innuendo, slap on an extra heavy coat of campy sparkle, and you've got this show. So much love!)

*head-desk*

Okay, so... I got my Mac back up and running, but...

It's all gone. Everything. My writing. The Impertinent Daughter's art. My art. My music. Photos. All of it, just... *poof*

And yes, I did archive and back up the hard drive, but... somewhere in the re-install of the OS, it just... went bye-bye.

I'm not sure how long I cried, probably several centuries while the Husbandly One held me through it. And y'all have no idea how close I came to just... giving up. Giving up writing and all of it.

*sighs*

However, THO talked me out of it, and while I am very glum and unhappy and just... every time I think of WIP that I had, and... *whimpers* I'm not sure if they were all backed up on the thumb drives or not.

Another problem is, for some reason or another, Leopard simply refuses to install correctly. I have the original disks, they're nice and clean, no scratches, but... it took several tries to install the first disk, and most of the second disk didn't install at all! So, we'll probably take the Mac in for some work, and, well... no more worries about questionable files on the hard drive now, is there?

Right now, I'm... okay. It's just... hard right now. I want to write but I can't because I can't load any of my word processing programs on the Mac because of the missing stuff. And I'll figure it out, when I'm not grieving.

*goes off to curl in a ball and sniffle*

well that explains a lot

Oh, -17C? That must be why I'm shivering. I've got to go pick up my new glasses today, but I'm really not so keen on going out. This is forehead-freezing weather, people, when those ice crystals start forming in your eyelashes.

On the plus side, if it stays below zero for awhile the canal should freeze well. I'm already craving beavertails!

*sigh* I should bundle up now. *bundles*

You go, Mom!!

So, my old hometown, Houston, became the largest city to elect an openly gay mayor last week. Believe me, I was extremely surprised, but very, very pleased when Annise Parker won (YAY!!). 'Bout time we got the good ol' boys OUT.

Anyhow, I was talking to my mom and she said the Brotherly One (who is married to the Blonde Sister) is a little "peturbed" with her at the moment. I asked why, and she said, "Well, he asked me who I voted for and I said Annise Parker, of course, and he got pretty bent out of shape about it."

I said, "Whatever for?"

And Mom said, "Well, he felt that being homosexual was immoral and that she shouldn't be allowed to run for office, and I said I wasn't changing my mind and that he was being narrow-minded and pig-headed!"

"Wow," I said with great admiration. "Don't hold back, Mom, tell me how you really feel!"

She laughed merrily, then said, "Well, you know, if he snarks at me one more time about Annise Parker and her sexuality, I'm going to say, well, we've had presidents, and governors, and congressmen, and mayors who couldn't keep their pants zipped, so I don't see how a lesbian could possibly do any worse!! And then I'll just tell him to shut up about it and get over it!!"

*dies from the awesomeness that is Mom*

That's my mom, folks. I'm so proud!!!

Mac Woes...

Okay, I think it may be a software problem. I've checked the hard drive and done "Hard Drive Repair" on it, and it reads okay, and I can actually get to the blue screen that comes up just before the desk top pops up... but not beyond that. And I think I know what may have happened.

I had this little program called "Mac Cleanse" that I'd used to clean out caches, etc, whenever the Mac started getting a little slow. Normally, I'd go through the checklist before running it, though, to make sure nothing was checked that shouldn't be, because sometimes there would be checks next to certain drivers, etc, that we NEED. And when I'd checked it through, I'd hit "cleanse" et voila! Faster running Mac!

However, just before everything went wonky, I was going to run it and got distracted by the kids, the phone, everything happening at once (as usual) and I just automatically clicked "cleanse" without thinking about it. And next time I tried to boot the Mac up... nothing.

Calling Apple Support will have to wait until tomorrow, though, because I have shopping to do today. Hopefully, I will be able to transfer my files, etc, temporarily to the laptop if I end up having to reinstall the OS on the Mac. *sigh*

Man, I'm telling y'all, around here, it is always something!!

Whoa!

Christmas is next week? When the hell did that happen?

[info]auntbijou

NOOOOOOO!!!!

My iMac is trying to die on me, and we have no idea why!

And you know, my dears, with the types of things Auntie writes, the idea of taking it to the Apple store for work is... terrifying!!

LIVE, TINKERBELL... LIVE!!!!

$%"*@#$*# Merlin

I owe a real update soon, but it won't be today. Suffice is to say that real life is surreal these days, blending with fandom in unexpected and amazing ways. Instead, have a snowy picture:

I took ton of pictures yesterday, and as usual there was only one I liked -- it's the lines of the buildings and the railing, kinda flow-y. By the way, that's the Rideau Canal, aka my skating rink. The snow's pretty, but it's going to be ages before it freezes at this rate. It's hardly ever open for skating before Christmas, I know, but every year I hope.

Got to bundle up now, I'm off to Slasher's brunch with my girls!
